Shelly Button Add-On (White) Setup Guide
Shelly Button Add-On (White) — Setup Guide
The Shelly Button Add-On is a compact, battery-powered wireless button that pairs with compatible Shelly Plus devices (Shelly Plus i4 DC or Shelly Plus Wall Dimmer) via Bluetooth LE. It allows you to trigger scenes, control lights or activate automations with a simple press. No mains wiring is required for the button itself.
-
Tools required:
- Small flat-head screwdriver or coin (for battery compartment, if required)
- Clean, dry cloth (to prepare the mounting surface)
- Isopropyl alcohol wipe (optional, for surface cleaning before applying adhesive)
-
Applications required:
- Shelly Smart Control app (available on iOS and Android)
- A registered Shelly Cloud account
- Bluetooth-enabled smartphone or tablet
- An active 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi network for the paired Shelly Plus device
Before you begin:
- Confirm you have a compatible Shelly Plus device already installed and operational (Shelly Plus i4 DC or Shelly Plus Wall Dimmer). The button will not function as a standalone device.
- Note: If your compatible Shelly Plus host device is mains-powered (e.g. Shelly Plus Wall Dimmer at 240 V), that host device must be installed by a qualified electrician. The Button Add-On itself is battery-powered and safe to handle.
- Ensure the pre-installed CR2032 battery has its protective pull-tab removed (if fitted) to activate the button.
- Update the Shelly Smart Control app and the firmware of your host Shelly Plus device to the latest version.
Step 1 — Prepare the host Shelly Plus device:
- Open the Shelly Smart Control app and sign in to your Shelly Cloud account.
- Locate your Shelly Plus i4 DC or Shelly Plus Wall Dimmer in the device list.
- Go to Settings for that device and check for firmware updates. Install any available updates.
- Ensure Bluetooth is enabled on the host device via its settings menu.
Step 2 — Activate the Button Add-On:
- Remove the battery pull-tab if present. If the tab is not fitted, open the battery compartment using a small flat-head screwdriver or coin, briefly remove and reinsert the CR2032 battery to power on the unit.
- Close the battery compartment securely.
Step 3 — Pair the button with the host device:
- In the Shelly Smart Control app, open the settings for your Shelly Plus i4 DC or Shelly Plus Wall Dimmer.
- Navigate to the Bluetooth Accessories or Add-On section (naming may vary by firmware version).
- Select Add Device or Pair New Button.
- When prompted, press and hold the Shelly Button Add-On until the app confirms discovery.
- Follow the on-screen instructions to complete pairing. Assign a friendly name to the button for easy identification.
Step 4 — Configure actions:
- Within the paired device settings, open the Actions or Scenes menu.
- Assign an action for each supported press type (typically single press, double press and long press). Actions may include toggling a Shelly relay, dimming a light, or triggering a Shelly Cloud scene.
- Save your configuration and test each press type to confirm the desired response.
Step 5 — Mount the button:
- Choose a location within Bluetooth range of the host Shelly Plus device (typically a few metres, dependent on walls and interference).
- Clean the mounting surface with a dry cloth or isopropyl alcohol wipe and allow it to dry fully.
- Peel the backing from the included adhesive mounting pad and firmly press the button onto the surface for several seconds.
- Alternatively, the unit may be placed loose on any flat surface such as a bedside table or shelf.
Step 6 — Final testing:
- Perform each configured press type and confirm the connected device or scene responds as expected.
- If the button does not respond, verify the battery is seated correctly, the host device is powered and online, and that the button is within Bluetooth range.
- Re-pair the button through the app if connectivity issues persist.
Operational notes:
- Operating temperature: 0°C to 40°C. Do not install in damp or outdoor locations.
- Battery type: CR2032 coin cell. Replace when the app reports low battery status.
- Dimensions: 30 x 30 x 10 mm — suitable for discreet placement.
- Connectivity to home network is handled by the paired Shelly Plus host device; the button itself communicates only via Bluetooth LE.
- Voice assistant compatibility: not specified for the button directly; any voice control depends on the host Shelly Plus device configuration.
