Shelly BLU H&T Heat/Humidity Display ZB & Bluetooth Black Setup Guide
Shelly BLU H&T Heat/Humidity Display ZB & Bluetooth Black - Setup Guide
This guide walks you through setting up the Shelly BLU H&T temperature and humidity sensor. The device is battery powered and supports both Zigbee 3.0 and Bluetooth 5.0 connectivity, allowing it to integrate with the Shelly app, Home Assistant, Alexa, and Google Home (Zigbee functionality requires a compatible Zigbee hub).
Tools Required:
- Small flat-head screwdriver or coin (for opening the battery compartment)
- Smartphone or tablet (iOS or Android)
- Optional: drill, screws, and wall plugs if wall mounting
- Optional: double-sided adhesive pad for surface mounting
Applications Required:
- Shelly Smart Control app (available on the Apple App Store and Google Play)
- Optional: Home Assistant, Alexa, or Google Home app for third-party integration
- Optional: A Zigbee gateway/hub application if using Zigbee connectivity (e.g. Shelly Zigbee-compatible hub, Home Assistant with Zigbee2MQTT or ZHA)
Step-by-Step Setup:
- Step 1 - Unbox the device: Remove the Shelly BLU H&T sensor, the supplied battery, mounting accessories, and the quick start guide from the packaging.
- Step 2 - Insert the battery: Open the rear battery compartment using a small flat-head screwdriver or coin. Insert the supplied battery, observing correct polarity. Close the compartment securely. The e-ink display should activate and show initial temperature and humidity readings.
- Step 3 - Install the Shelly Smart Control app: On your smartphone or tablet, download and install the Shelly Smart Control app from your device's app store. Create a Shelly account or sign in with your existing credentials.
- Step 4 - Enable Bluetooth on your phone: Make sure Bluetooth is switched on and that the Shelly app has permission to use Bluetooth and location services. This is required for device discovery during pairing.
- Step 5 - Choose your connectivity method: Decide whether to pair the device via Bluetooth (direct connection to the Shelly app or a Shelly gateway) or Zigbee (via a compatible Zigbee hub).
- Step 6 (Bluetooth pairing) - Add the device: In the Shelly app, tap Add Device and select Bluetooth. Place the sensor within close range of your phone. Follow the on-screen prompts to discover and pair the BLU H&T. Assign it to a room and give it a recognisable name.
- Step 7 (Zigbee pairing) - Put hub into pairing mode: If using Zigbee, open your Zigbee hub's app or interface and enable permit join or add device mode. Then follow the BLU H&T's quick start guide to put the sensor into Zigbee pairing mode (typically by pressing and holding the device's button until the display indicates pairing). Wait for the hub to discover and add the sensor.
- Step 8 - Verify readings: Once paired, confirm that temperature and humidity values are reported in your chosen app or hub interface. Allow a few minutes for initial calibration.
- Step 9 - Configure alerts and thresholds: Within the Shelly app (or your hub's automation engine), set high and low thresholds for temperature and humidity. Configure push notifications or automations to alert you when readings fall outside your preferred range.
- Step 10 - Choose a mounting location: Select a location away from direct sunlight, heat sources, draughts, and humidity sources such as showers or kettles, to ensure accurate readings. Suitable areas include bedrooms, nurseries, greenhouses, or wine cellars.
- Step 11 - Mount the device: Use the supplied mounting accessories to fix the sensor to a wall, or place it on a flat surface such as a shelf. A double-sided adhesive pad can also be used for quick installation.
- Step 12 - Optional third-party integration: To use the device with Alexa, Google Home, or Home Assistant, link your Shelly account or Zigbee hub to the relevant platform via its respective app. Follow the platform's instructions to expose the BLU H&T sensor for use in routines and automations.
- Step 13 - Test the setup: Briefly expose the sensor to a controlled change in temperature or humidity (for example, moving it to a cooler room) and confirm that the display, app readings, and any alerts respond as expected.
Maintenance Notes:
- Replace the battery when the app or display indicates low power. Use the same battery type as supplied.
- Keep the device clean by wiping gently with a dry, soft cloth. Do not use liquids or abrasive cleaners.
- Periodically check firmware updates in the Shelly app to ensure optimal performance.
