Samsung SmartThings Hub V2 for UK

  • Tools required:
    • Smartphone or tablet running iOS or Android
    • Active broadband internet connection and an Ethernet router (Ethernet cable included)
    • Mains power outlet (power adapter included) and the supplied four AA batteries
    • Optional: small flat surface or shelf for a central indoor location
  • Applications:
    • SmartThings app (Samsung account required) — install from the App Store or Google Play
    • Amazon Alexa app and/or Google Home app if you plan to enable voice control

Capabilities and connectivity:
This hub provides local control for compatible ZigBee and Z‑Wave devices and connects to your home network by Ethernet for remote management via the SmartThings cloud and app. Voice integration with Amazon Alexa and Google Assistant is supported. The package includes the hub unit, an Ethernet cable, power adapter and four AA batteries.

Setup steps:
1. Unbox and inspect — Confirm the hub, Ethernet cable, power adapter and four AA batteries are present. Do not proceed if anything is missing.

2. Choose location — Place the hub centrally in the home for best ZigBee/Z‑Wave coverage, away from large metal objects and thick walls. Do not place the hub outdoors.

3. Insert batteries (if required) — If the hub has a battery compartment, insert the four AA batteries provided to enable backup or retention of settings (follow polarity markings). If the hub operates only from mains power, fit batteries only where the product manual instructs.

4. Connect to router — Use the supplied Ethernet cable to connect the hub’s Ethernet port to an available LAN port on your router or network switch. Ensure the router provides internet access.

5. Power up — Plug the power adapter into the hub and connect to a mains socket. The hub will initialise; allow a few minutes for boot and any automatic firmware update processes. (Follow any on-device indicator guidance in the quick‑start guide.)

6. Install and open the SmartThings app — On your smartphone or tablet, open the SmartThings app and sign in with your Samsung account. If you do not have an account, create one in the app.

7. Add the hub to your SmartThings account — In the SmartThings app use Add device / Hub (or follow the app’s on‑screen prompts) to detect and register the new SmartThings Hub V2. Follow all on‑screen instructions to complete registration and name the hub. Ensure the app confirms the hub is online.

8. Complete any firmware updates — If the app prompts for a firmware update, allow it to complete while keeping the hub powered and connected to the internet. Do not interrupt the update process.

9. Pair ZigBee and Z‑Wave devices — For each device you wish to add, put the device into its inclusion/pairing mode (refer to that device’s manual). In the SmartThings app choose Add device and follow the prompts to add ZigBee or Z‑Wave devices. For Z‑Wave devices you may need to enable inclusion mode on the hub via the app first.

10. Enable voice assistants (optional) — To use Alexa or Google Assistant, open the Alexa or Google Home app, add the SmartThings skill/action and follow the linking prompts to authorise access to your SmartThings account. Authorise device discovery in the voice app to expose devices for voice control.

11. Test setup and create automations — Verify that devices respond in the SmartThings app and via voice if configured. Create rooms, scenes and schedules in the app to confirm automations behave as expected.

Troubleshooting tips:
If the hub will not go online, check Ethernet and power connections, restart the router and hub, and confirm the router is providing DHCP. If pairing fails, move the device closer to the hub during inclusion, ensure the device is in correct pairing mode and retry. If app registration fails, verify your Samsung account credentials and internet connectivity. For persistent problems consult the product quick‑start guide.
