Govee Icicle Lights Setup Guide

Govee Icicle Lights

  • Tools required:
    • Steady ladder suitable for the height of installation
    • Tape measure or laser distance measurer
    • Marker or chalk for spacing reference
    • Outdoor-rated fixing clips or hooks appropriate for your eaves/roofline
    • Small drill or screwdriver (for screws or adhesive-backed clips as recommended)
    • Outdoor-rated cable ties and/or outdoor silicone sealant
    • Outdoor-rated extension lead or outdoor power supply if a plug is used (check product specs)
    • Protective gloves and eye protection
  • Applications:
    • Control or companion applications: not specified — consult packaging or manufacturer instructions if app-based control or remote control is included

Capabilities: icicle-style hanging illumination suitable for rooflines, eaves and accent or festive lighting; continuous illumination along the strand.
Connectivity: not specified — check the product packaging or manual for whether the strand is plug-in, battery, remote or app controlled.

• Unpack and inspect: Open the packaging and confirm all items listed on the product insert are present (light strands, controller/remote, mounting clips, power lead if supplied). Do not install damaged components; contact the retailer/manufacturer if you find damage.

• Read the manual: Before climbing a ladder, read the supplied instructions thoroughly for details on power type, IP rating, recommended spacing and any controller pairing steps. If the manual specifies a mains (fixed) connection, do not proceed without a qualified electrician.

• Plan the layout: Measure the length of the eaves/roofline where you will hang the icicle strands. Note where power will originate and plan the route for the cable to the supply. Allow some slack at the power connection for safe access.

• Choose appropriate fixings: Select mounting clips or hooks suitable for your eaves material (plastic, wood, brick). Use adhesive-backed clips only where the surface and temperature range allow; otherwise use screw-in clips. Space fixings evenly to support the weight of the strand as recommended by the manufacturer (consult the manual for exact spacing if provided).
• Install fixings safely: Using a ladder with a spotter, mark fixing points and install clips or hooks securely. Avoid placing fixings where they will puncture roof membranes or interfere with guttering. Maintain a safe working position on the ladder at all times.
• Hang the strands: Starting at the power end, attach the light strand to the clips so the icicle drops hang uniformly. Do not stretch the strand; allow natural slack so bulbs/housings are not under stress.
• Route and protect the cable: Keep the main cable protected and close to the building. Use outdoor-rated cable clips and avoid sharp edges. If using an extension lead, use an outdoor-rated, RCD-protected supply and avoid running cables where they will be trip hazards.
• Power up and test: Connect to the power source as specified in the manual and test the lights. If a controller, remote or app is supplied, follow the pairing/setup instructions. If lights do not operate, disconnect power and inspect connections and plugs.
• Weatherproofing and safety: Seal any exposed outdoor connections with appropriate outdoor-rated enclosures or silicone sealant. Do not modify the power cable or controller. If you plan to hard-wire or alter fixed wiring, hire a trained electrician to perform the work.
• Maintenance and storage: Turn off and disconnect power before cleaning. Regularly inspect clips, cable condition and bulb housings. For off-season storage, remove fixings where appropriate, coil strands loosely and store in a dry place away from heavy crushing.
