Aqara Wall Outlet H2 UK (Dual USB-C) — Setup Guide

Important safety notice: This product connects to 240V AC mains electricity. Installation must be carried out by a qualified and trained electrician in accordance with UK wiring regulations (BS 7671). Do not attempt to install this device yourself unless you are professionally qualified. Always isolate the circuit at the consumer unit before commencing any work and verify the circuit is dead using an approved voltage indicator.

Tools required:

  • Insulated flat-head and Phillips screwdrivers
  • Approved voltage tester or multimeter
  • Wire strippers
  • Spirit level
  • Suitable UK back box (25mm minimum depth recommended, check fit prior to install)
  • Smartphone or tablet for commissioning
  • Stable 2.4GHz Wi-Fi network for hub or Thread Border Router

Applications required:

  • Aqara Home app (iOS or Android) — required for both Thread and Zigbee modes
  • Apple Home, Google Home, or Amazon Alexa app — optional, for Matter/voice ecosystem integration
  • A Thread Border Router (e.g. Apple HomePod mini, Apple TV 4K, Google Nest Hub 2nd gen) for Thread/Matter mode
  • An Aqara Zigbee hub (e.g. Hub M2, M3) for full Zigbee feature set

Step 1 — Plan the installation

  • Confirm the intended location has an existing single or double UK back box of adequate depth.
  • Decide in advance whether the outlet will operate in Thread mode (Matter compatibility, no Aqara hub required) or Zigbee mode (full Aqara feature set including individual outlet power monitoring, child lock and custom button modes).
  • Ensure a compatible hub or Thread Border Router is already installed and online.

Step 2 — Isolate the power (electrician)

  • Switch off the relevant circuit at the consumer unit and lock off where possible.
  • Verify the circuit is dead at the socket location using an approved voltage indicator.
  • Remove the existing socket and disconnect the Live (brown), Neutral (blue) and Earth (green/yellow) conductors.

Step 3 — Wire the Aqara Wall Outlet H2

  • Connect the Live conductor to the terminal marked L.
  • Connect the Neutral conductor to the terminal marked N.
  • Connect the Earth conductor to the terminal marked with the earth symbol.
  • Ensure all terminal screws are tightened to the manufacturer's specified torque and no bare copper is exposed.
  • Carefully fold the wiring into the back box and secure the faceplate using the supplied screws. Check alignment with a spirit level.

Step 4 — Restore power and confirm operation

  • Re-energise the circuit at the consumer unit.
  • Confirm the status LED illuminates on the front of the outlet, indicating power is present and the device is ready for pairing.

Step 5 — Select operating protocol (Thread or Zigbee)

  • By default the device may enter pairing mode on first power-up. If not, press and hold the pairing button until the LED flashes.
  • Refer to the quick start guide for the specific button sequence to toggle between Thread and Zigbee modes. The LED colour or flash pattern will indicate the current protocol.

Step 6a — Pairing in Thread / Matter mode

  • Open your chosen Matter-compatible app (Apple Home, Google Home, or Alexa).
  • Select Add Accessory and scan the Matter QR code printed on the device or in the quick start guide.
  • Follow the in-app prompts to assign the outlet to a room. The two AC outlets and USB-C ports will appear as separate controllable endpoints.
  • Optionally add the device to Aqara Home using the same Matter code for combined power monitoring.

Step 6b — Pairing in Zigbee mode

  • Open the Aqara Home app and ensure your Aqara Zigbee hub is online.
  • Tap + then Add Device and select Wall Outlet H2 from the list.
  • Follow the on-screen prompts; the hub will discover and pair the outlet automatically.
  • Assign the outlet to a room and rename the individual outlets and USB-C ports for clarity.

Step 7 — Configure features

  • Button modes (Zigbee): choose Easy-to-Access for standard on/off control, or Custom Press to bind single, double or long presses to automations.
  • Power monitoring: enable daily, weekly and monthly reporting from within Aqara Home. Individual outlet monitoring is available in Zigbee mode; combined monitoring only in Thread mode.
  • Child lock (Zigbee): enable via the device settings to prevent unintended physical button presses.
  • Overload and heat protection: set an appropriate current threshold under safety settings. Recommended limits should not exceed 13A per outlet.
  • USB-C scheduling: create schedules or automations for the USB-C ports (up to 30W total, 15W per port when both are in use).

Step 8 — Voice assistant integration

  • In Thread mode, the outlet is exposed automatically to any Matter controller linked to your Thread Border Router.
  • In Zigbee mode, link the Aqara Home account to Alexa or Google Home using the respective skill/service to enable voice control.

Step 9 — Test and finalise

  • Test each AC outlet and USB-C port individually via the app and physical buttons.
  • Verify automations, schedules and power reporting are functioning as expected.
  • Label the outlet in the app clearly for household users.

Note: Feature availability differs between Thread and Zigbee modes. Individual outlet power monitoring, custom button behaviours, child lock, and configurable overload/heat protection require Zigbee mode with a compatible Aqara hub. Switching protocols will require re-pairing the device.
