Aqara Wall Outlet H2 UK (Dual USB-C) — Setup Guide

Important safety notice: This product connects to 240V AC mains electricity. Installation must be carried out by a qualified and trained electrician in accordance with UK wiring regulations (BS 7671). Do not attempt installation yourself unless you are suitably qualified. Always isolate the circuit at the consumer unit and verify with an approved voltage tester before commencing work.

Tools required:

  • Insulated flat-head and Phillips screwdrivers
  • Approved voltage tester or multimeter
  • Wire strippers
  • Spirit level
  • Circuit tester / socket tester (for post-install verification)
  • Smartphone or tablet (iOS or Android)
  • Stable 2.4GHz Wi-Fi network and, depending on chosen mode, a Thread Border Router or Aqara Zigbee hub

Applications required:

  • Aqara Home app (iOS or Android) — required for both Thread and Zigbee setup
  • Apple Home, Google Home, or Amazon Alexa app — optional, for Matter/voice integration
  • A Matter-compatible ecosystem app if using Thread mode (e.g. Apple Home, Google Home, SmartThings)

Before you begin:

  • Confirm the existing wall box is a standard UK 86mm square back box with sufficient depth.
  • Decide which connectivity mode you require: Thread (for Matter compatibility, no Aqara hub needed, combined power monitoring) or Zigbee (requires an Aqara Zigbee hub, unlocks individual outlet monitoring, child lock, custom button modes and overload/heat protection).
  • Ensure your Thread Border Router (e.g. HomePod mini, Apple TV 4K, Google Nest Hub 2nd gen) or Aqara Zigbee hub is set up and online.

Step 1 — Isolate the circuit (electrician only):

  • Switch off the relevant circuit at the consumer unit and lock off if possible.
  • Verify the socket is dead using an approved voltage tester.

Step 2 — Remove the existing socket:

  • Unscrew the existing faceplate and carefully withdraw it from the back box.
  • Note the wiring configuration: Live (brown), Neutral (blue), and Earth (green/yellow).
  • Disconnect the conductors from the old socket terminals.

Step 3 — Wire the Aqara Wall Outlet H2:

  • Connect the Live conductor to the L terminal.
  • Connect the Neutral conductor to the N terminal.
  • Connect the Earth conductor to the E terminal.
  • Ensure all terminal screws are tightened to the manufacturer’s specified torque and that no bare copper is exposed.

Step 4 — Mount the outlet:

  • Carefully fold the conductors back into the wall box, ensuring no strain on the terminals.
  • Align the outlet with the back box, use a spirit level to check it is straight, and secure using the supplied mounting screws.

Step 5 — Restore power and test:

  • Re-energise the circuit at the consumer unit.
  • Use a socket tester to confirm correct polarity and earth continuity on both AC outlets.

Step 6 — Pair the outlet (Thread mode):

  • Open the Aqara Home app and sign in or create an account.
  • Tap Add Device, select the Wall Outlet H2, and choose Thread mode when prompted.
  • Press and hold the reset button on the outlet until the indicator flashes to enter pairing mode.
  • Follow the in-app instructions to connect via your Thread Border Router.
  • To add to Matter ecosystems, generate the Matter pairing code within Aqara Home and scan it in Apple Home, Google Home, or Alexa.

Step 6 (alternative) — Pair the outlet (Zigbee mode):

  • Ensure your Aqara Zigbee hub is online and in the Aqara Home app.
  • In the app, tap Add Device, select the hub, then choose the Wall Outlet H2 and select Zigbee mode.
  • Press and hold the reset button until the indicator flashes to enter pairing mode.
  • Wait for the app to confirm successful pairing.

Step 7 — Configure features:

  • Within the Aqara Home app, assign the outlet to a room and rename each AC outlet and USB-C port for clarity.
  • Choose between Easy-to-Access mode (traditional on/off) and Custom Press mode (single, double, or long press triggers automations) — Zigbee mode only.
  • Enable child lock, set overload thresholds, and configure heat monitoring limits as required (Zigbee mode only).
  • Set up USB-C scheduling and independent outlet control as needed.
  • Review power monitoring data: combined in Thread mode, per-outlet in Zigbee mode.

Step 8 — Voice assistant integration (optional):

  • In Thread mode, add the device to Apple Home, Google Home, or Alexa via Matter using the pairing code.
  • In Zigbee mode, link the Aqara Home account to Alexa or Google Home via the respective app’s skill/service.

Step 9 — Final verification:

  • Test each AC outlet and USB-C port with a known load.
  • Confirm remote control, automations, and power monitoring function correctly in the app.

Note: Individual outlet power monitoring, custom button modes, child lock, and overload/heat protection are available in Zigbee mode only. Thread mode prioritises Matter compatibility with combined power monitoring.
