Aqara Presence Sensor FP2 Setup Guide
Aqara Presence Sensor FP2 - Setup Guide
This walkthrough explains how to unbox, mount, power, and configure the Aqara Presence Sensor FP2 using millimetre-wave radar for whole-room presence detection, zone mapping, and multi-platform smart home integration.
Tools required:
- Small Phillips screwdriver (for wall or ceiling bracket fixing)
- Drill with masonry or wood bit (only if using screw-mount installation)
- Spirit level or measuring tape (to confirm mounting height and alignment)
- Pencil (to mark drill or adhesive positions)
- Cleaning cloth (to prepare surface for adhesive mount)
- Stepladder (for ceiling installations at 2.5-2.8 m height)
Applications required:
- Aqara Home app (iOS or Android) - primary configuration app
- Apple Home app (optional, for HomeKit integration)
- Amazon Alexa app (optional, for Alexa integration)
- Google Home app (optional, for Google Home integration)
- Home Assistant (optional, for advanced local integration)
Before you begin:
- Ensure you have a 2.4 GHz WiFi network available - the FP2 does not connect to 5 GHz networks.
- Have your WiFi SSID and password ready.
- Decide the mounting location. For general presence detection, a wall or corner mount at 1.5-2 m is typical. For fall detection, ceiling mounting at 2.5-2.8 m is required.
- Ensure the mounting area gives a clear line of detection across the intended coverage zone (up to 40 m²).
Step 1 - Unbox and identify components:
- Remove the FP2 sensor, USB-C cable, power adapter, mounting bracket, adhesive pad, and screws from the box.
- Check the quick start guide for the QR code used during pairing.
Step 2 - Power the sensor:
- Connect the USB-C cable to the FP2 and to the supplied USB power adapter.
- Plug the adapter into a standard mains socket. The sensor is low-voltage USB-C powered, so no electrical wiring is required.
- Wait approximately 30 seconds for the indicator light to begin flashing, indicating pairing mode. If it does not flash, press and hold the reset button on the rear for 5 seconds.
Step 3 - Install the Aqara Home app and create an account:
- Download Aqara Home from the App Store or Google Play.
- Register or sign in, and set your region correctly - region cannot be changed later without a factory reset.
Step 4 - Add the FP2 to Aqara Home:
- In the app, tap the + icon and select Add Device.
- Choose Presence Sensor FP2 from the sensor list, or scan the QR code on the device or quick start guide.
- Confirm the indicator is flashing, then follow the prompts to enter your 2.4 GHz WiFi credentials.
- Wait for pairing to complete - the indicator will turn solid once connected.
Step 5 - Mount the sensor:
- For wall or corner mounting, attach the bracket using the adhesive pad on a clean, dry surface, or secure with screws for a permanent fix.
- For ceiling mounting (required for fall detection), fix the bracket at 2.5-2.8 m height with screws. Fall detection covers a 2 m radius directly below the sensor.
- Clip the FP2 onto the bracket and adjust the angle so the front face is aligned with the area to be monitored.
- Route the USB-C cable neatly to the power adapter.
Step 6 - Configure detection zones:
- In Aqara Home, open the FP2 device page and select Zone Settings.
- Allow the sensor to complete an initial room scan - remain still or leave the room briefly if prompted.
- Draw up to 30 zones on the room map (for example, sofa, desk, doorway, bed).
- Assign names to each zone for use in automations.
Step 7 - Enable additional features:
- Enable Fall Detection if the sensor is ceiling-mounted at the correct height.
- Enable the Light Sensor to allow brightness-based triggers.
- Configure Multi-person Tracking if you need to detect up to 5 individuals; performance is optimal with 3 or fewer targets.
Step 8 - Integrate with other platforms:
- HomeKit: In Aqara Home, open the FP2 settings and select HomeKit. Scan the generated HomeKit code with the Apple Home app.
- Alexa: Open the Alexa app, enable the Aqara skill, sign in with your Aqara credentials, and discover devices.
- Google Home: Open Google Home, add a device, choose Works with Google, and link the Aqara account.
- Home Assistant: Use a supported Aqara integration to expose zones and presence entities.
Step 9 - Create automations:
- Use presence in specific zones as triggers - for example, turn on a desk lamp when the desk zone is occupied.
- Combine zone presence with the light sensor to only trigger lighting when ambient brightness is low.
- Local automations configured in Aqara Home will continue to function during temporary internet outages.
Notes:
- Matter support is listed as planned - availability is not specified at time of setup.
- The FP2 is IPX5 rated, making it suitable for bathrooms, but the USB power adapter must remain in a dry location.
- No hub is required for standard smart home integrations.
